Crafts For Kids To Open Their Hearts and Expand Their Minds
Whether it be a rainy day or blizzard outside, Mother’s Day or a birthday, crafts for kids is a great way to get your children involved in something fun, productive, and creative. Let their imaginations go wild as they make all sorts of wonderful little pieces of art. Nothing brings a smile on a child’s face more than getting the chance to show off a masterpiece that they made. Below are a few different ideas when looking for crafts for kids.
1. Puppet making. There are all sorts of ways to make a puppet. In this craft, we are going to use socks. The basic supplies your children will need are glue, scissors, and felt. The rest of supplies (for decorating the puppet) can be up to you and your children. Let your children get creative when making their sock puppets. They can glue on wiggly eyes, felt coats and clothes, cotton ball hair or painted faces. This craft will keep them busy for hours as they make several different kinds of puppets. When they are done creating their puppets, have them put the puppets on their hands, hide behind a table and give you a puppet show.
2. Wooden frames. Crafts for kids involving wood frames can be easier done when purchasing already assembled frames in unfinished wood. Then you can have your little ones paint and decorate the frames as they see fit. They can use glitter, sequin, beads, wooden balls, or other things to add some personality to their frames.
3. Chinese lanterns - Have your kids fold pieces of paper vertically. Then either you or your children (with safety scissors) make a series of cuts on the fold but leaving 2 inches on both sides. Open the paper and join the edges either with glue or staples to create the lantern. Have them cut a 2-inch strip to serve as a handle and then glue it (or staple) on either side of the lantern, on the top. They have now created a Chinese lantern. Now, have them create many more in various colors, string them together, and hang them up.
4. Sponge plant - Crafts for kids can be a learning experience too. With this one, you are going to show your kids how to make a plant with nothing more than a sponge and flower seeds. It will just about grow right before their eyes. Have them put a porous sponge in a container of water to soak. Then have them roll the sponge in any type of small flower seeds. Hang the sponge in a sunny window and have them keep an eye on it over the next several days for seed sprouting. Once the seeds have begun to sprout, show them how to transfer the seeds into a pot with soil. What a great way to learn about how flowers grow.
Crafts for kids can get the whole family together and spark creativity. Children love to make things and showing a bit of praise for a job well done will give them a boost in pride as well. Use these craft ideas for any occasion to keep your children interactive while helping the development of many skills and talents.
